Kristian Winther - Violin

Kristian Winther is a renowned violinist known for both his solo performances and dynamic chamber music. He has played with major orchestras including the Sydney and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras and has worked with notable conductors.

As a leader, he has served as Guest Concertmaster for various orchestras and was part of the award-winning TinAlley String Quartet.

Kristian has performed diverse repertoire, from Bach's unaccompanied works to modern pieces, including world premieres. He is committed to new music and has premiered works by various contemporary composers.

Kristian plays a violin made by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, on loan from the UKARIA Cultural Centre.

Anna da Silva Chen - Violin

Anna da Silva Chen, a top Australian concert violinist, is celebrated for her solo and chamber performances. She has played with major orchestras, including the Australian Chamber Orchestra, and premiered Max Reger’s Violin Concerto in Australia in 2024.

Anna co-leads the Alma Moodie Quartet and joined the Australian Chamber Orchestra in 2025, focusing on complex works.

By 15, she had won several competitions, such as the Kendall National Violin Competition. Raised in Wollongong, she started violin at 8 and maintains community ties through performances at the Gerringong Music Club.

Her teachers include Sarah Hindson and Prof Mihaela Martin.

James Wannan - Viola

Violist James Wannan is a member of Southern Cross Soloists and an Artistic Associate of Sydney Chamber Opera.

He teaches chamber music and viola at the Sydney Conservatorium’s Rising Stars program. With a diverse musical background, he studied under various instructors in Australia and Vienna.

James has performed on multiple instruments, including violin and Oud, and has worked with the Renaissance Players on the vielle and rebec. As a viola d'amore soloist, he champions its repertoire and has influenced new works, such as a concerto by Jack Symonds.

He has collaborated with Mary Finsterer on the acclaimed piece ‘Ignis’ and has soloed with several Australian orchestras, including the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.

Miles Mullin-Chivers - Cellist

Miles began cello lessons at 4 with Takao Mizushima. He joined Rising Stars, studied under Susan Blake and Julian Smiles, and graduated with First Class Honours from the Sydney Conservatorium at 19, learning from musicians like Fred Sherry and Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt.

He co-founded the Tarsus Chamber Collective and the Alma Moodie Quartet, performing as a soloist and chamber musician.

Miles won 1st prize at the 2019 Gisborne International Music Competition and worked with the Sydney Symphony and Opera Australia Orchestras.

A Sydney Symphony Fellow in 2020-2021, he is the Amsterdam Sinfonietta Academist for 2024. Since the 2022 BBC Proms Tour, he has been with the Australian World Orchestra and is completing a Master's at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
